Procedures

Conduct interviews in a private area when possible. When a private location is not available, follow the instructions below:

If the interview is conducted in…

Then…

A shared hospital room or nursing home room

  • Explain to the person being interviewed the right to a confidential interview, and

  • Reschedule the interview if requested by the customer or representative.

An open office or interview room

Close the door unless the person being interviewed asks that it be left open.

NOTE     If the person being interviewed requests that the door be left open, treat the room as a public location.

A public location, at the customer’s or representative’s request

  • Explain that it may not be possible to maintain confidentiality because of the public location; and

  • Inform the person being interviewed that it may be necessary to speak in low tones to avoid others hearing the interview.
