1

Do the customer and spouse own the resource together?

  • If YES, continue to step 2.

  • If NO, skip to step 3.

2

Is it a Dual Community Spouse case?

  • If YES, STOP. Manually calculate each owner’s 50% share and enter the amount as their own separate resource with no co-owner.

  • If NO, continue to step 3.

3

Does the customer or budget group member claim that the resource does not belong to them?

4

Click the Add link in the resource detail window next to co-owner.

5

Use the drop-down to select the co-owner. When the co-owner is not in the list, select “Other”, then enter the co-owner’s name.

6

Use the drop-down to select the type of ownership when you have proof. Otherwise, leave the field blank. See MA704 Ownership of Resources for information about the types of ownership and proof.

NOTE     When adding the ownership type changes the ownership percentage to 100%, HEAplus will calculate the amount as owned by the customer or budget group member. Though the display may be inaccurate the HEAplus calculation is correct.

7

Enter the percentage of ownership for the co-owner. For the following situations, enter the percentage ownership for co-owners as 0%:

  • Financial accounts that have the customer’s name on it are always counted 100% to the customer.

  • When the customer’s name is not on the account it is 100% counted to the budget group member who owns the account.

  • If only budget group members own the account, it is counted 100% to the first budget group member listed.

See MA705I Financial Accounts for details on ownership for financial accounts.

8

Select YES or NO for the question, “Is the co-owner a Medicaid customer?”

NOTE     Selecting “YES” will change the ownership type to “AND”. This button does not have any other function. If it does not take all owners to access the resource, be sure to select “NO”. See MA704B for details.

9

Are there any other co-owners for the resource?

  • If YES, repeat steps 4-8.

  • If NO, check the budget worksheets to ensure that the resource is counted for the amount the customer has access to.
